FOCUS 5

ACTIVATE- REGULATE- EXPLORE- EXPRESS- EMPOWER

Art making and the exploration of images can be used for different reasons and so we work together to choose the right approach to have a positive impact on your goals.

An example of this is drawing slowly in order to feel calm and balanced so that you can learn better and feel safe to talk about your experiences

Use different art materials to express your self and physically release emotions that might otherwise be trapped in your body leaving you feeling fatigued.

Be supported to talk about your feelings and understand what is going on for you when you feel emotions like anxiety, sadness, disappointment or anger

What is helpful about this programme?

Ultimately everyone that I work with has a different experience, there is not a set schedule that we follow but we talk together to decide what to focus on each week and if this changes then this is ok as means being responsive as we navigate the way forward together.

Here are some examples of client experiences

CLIENT A.

This person's goal was to create a strategy to help her go out places with friends without feeling anxious.

She felt overwhelmed and upset talking about her anxiety so we focussed on creating art as a way to regulate emotions and express how she felt about uncertainty.

Slowing down was helpful and allowed her to trust and accept herself.

CLIENT B

Decided to paint to express feelings relating to changes in her body, including fatigue and weight gain which was affecting her confidence.

When explored further, she felt that she wanted more purpose in life so she explored and reviewed her beliefs and values to create a stronger vision.

She was then able to take more action in all areas including her health

CLIENT C

Believed that she didn't have time to do anything outside of the 1-1 sessions and wanted to go through the program quickly.

There was a pattern of putting others first and she was encouraged her to use the sessions as a means of self care rather than trying to be productive.

As a result she could place firmer boundaries in other areas of life.

Ultimately this programme allows us to work together in a way that feels right for YOU and by honouring yourself and your own specific needs you can achieve your goals.

 What do you think?

Are you ready to get out of your head and into your heart ........with a little but of help from art?

This experience
is for you if:

  • You’re overwhelmed by stress, anxiety, or burnout and maybe feel disconnected from your true self and want a deeper connection.
  • You can't always find the right words to express how you are feeling and want to find ways to manage your emotions.
  • You’ve faced varying challenges including past trauma or loss and or you are at a transitional point in life.
  • You are fed up of going round in circles, and want an in depth personal development experience with lasting change.
  • You are ready to reclaim your power, boost your confidence and take back control of your life.
  • You are willing to do the work in between the 1-1 sessions and be proactive (I will support you with this)

You might not be ready for this  if....

  • You want a quick fix solution
  • You are not prepared to put in the work and unwilling to problem solve some things for yourself
  • You are currently in crisis regarding your mental health and needing to access a service to support you with this. (Due to the online nature of this work and practising independently I am unable to offer a crisis service).
  • You would need to forego any bills rent etc or go into debt to pay for this. (Whilst it could be very helpful and I recognise your interest I recommend one of my other services at a lower investment)

You don’t have to figure this out alone. If you’re ready to explore what’s next for you, let’s chat. Book your Creative Discovery Call today and take the first step toward something meaningful.

Frequently Asked Questions

Art therapy is a form of psychotherapy which uses art as a means of self expression and communication. You will be encouraged to make art during our 1-1 sessions and in between sessions and you can choose to talk about your images if you like.

There is not expectation to be technically skills in art nor do you need to know anything about the history of art but I hope that you are open minded to allow yourself to experiment and play with different art materials.

The use of stories, symbols and metaphors and your imagination is a great way to break psychological patterns so that you can lean into expressing yourself in different ways.

This program allows for a balance of self expression and acceptance of emotions where you are supported to 'feel the feelings' along with some coaching and educational content to help you learn ways to manage your mental health and build a more resilient mindset.

There will be some resources in the form of workbooks and videos within the course platform and these can help you to take action and make progress in between sessions. Further resources and trainings will be provided if it feels there is a specific topic I can help you with that goes beyond your own sessions.

As a trauma informed art therapist, I firmly believe that flexibility can help you to get the best outcomes from this programme. It is important for us to go at your pace, and make use of different tools and techniques that can support and you and your specific situation.

As well having an MA in Art Therapy (Graduated from Derby University in 2016), I have completed training in CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) DBT (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy) DDP (Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy- A specialist intervention focussing on relationships and attachment and trauma) Motivational Interviewing and ECT (Emotional Change Coaching and Therapy)

Each of these models have their benefits in supporting people with mental and emotional challenges and there are many similarities and differences. Rather than you having to go to a different therapist for each separate approach or me reinventing the wheel, I integrate these different models into my practice. This has become more intuitive after many years working in mental health services and ultimately it is about providing the best service possible.

All 1-1 sessions take place online using zoom or alternative if preferred.

The sessions will be arranged at a time that suits us both with core sessions lasting up to 90 mins per fortnight.

If either of us are unwell or on holiday sessions can be rearranged as long as enough notice is given and the 4 month period of time can be expanded if necessary.

Sometimes when someone starts therapy the experience is challenging and one can often feel worse than before, this is because you are allowing emotions to surface and a sign that progress is being made.

I encourage you to speak with me about this and consider if the pace needs to be slower or if you need some extra support.  If it feels that we aren't a good fit for each other then you do not need to continue working with me.

A refund can be given in accordance with the terms and conditions of the service.

If you are not sure if we might be a good match then get in touch on Instagram @lesley_andrew_art.therapist or email me @ lesley_andrew@outlook.com

Sorry that you are feeling so bad right now, I imagine its really hard. I don't know what is going on for you so I can't suggest anything or offer specific support.

I am not set up to offer specific mental health crisis support however there are loads of services that you can reach out to depending on where you live including 'Mind' which has a list of mental health services.  https://www.mind.org.uk/  and I suggest that you speak with your GP and call a friend or family member if this feels suitable.
